HealthFirst Offers Free Cancer
Screenings
In recognition of National Breast Cancer
Awareness Month, HealthFirst Family Care Center, 102
County Street, Fall River is offering free breast examinations and education
from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Tuesday during the month of October. No appointment
is necessary.
Uma Kolli,
M.D., HealthFirst's Medical Director advises
that, "Screening tests are the tools for early detection of cancer and have the
potential to save one's life. Every woman, beginning at age 20, should have a
breast examination as part of her routine physical examination."
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among
women in the United States, other than skin cancer. It is the second leading
cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer according to the
American Cancer Society. A
representative from the American Cancer Society will be available during the
screening sessions to provide information and education on early detection of
breast cancer.
Mae Igi,
HealthFirst's Physician Assistant notes that, "women
take care of their families and friends, but often neglect themselves". She
encourages women to, "stop by and learn how to take better care of you".
HealthFirst is a non-profit
community health center whose mission is to ensure that all residents of
Greater Fall River receive quality, affordable health care, regardless of their
ability to pay. Dr. Kolli and her staff of internists, family practice
physicians and pediatricians are always accepting new patients. The clinic is
open seven days a week including evening hours. Having a primary care physician
is essential to maintaining good health. Call (508) 679-8111 to schedule an
appointment for yourself or your family.
Please contact Paula Harrison, at (774) 627-1204 for tickets
