Epic Electronic Health Records System and MyChart Patient Portal Goes Live on December 1, 2022

HealthFirst patients will notice some exciting changes to our online patient portal and improved patient care when we switch to a new Epic Electronic Health Records system on December 1, 2022.

HealthFirst Family Care Center is part of a group of 12 area community health centers known as the Community Technology Collaborative that will be switching to Epic, a best-in-class confidential, patient-centered platform that will allow us to have a single fully integrated system to better manage patient care. This move will help the health center achieve major goals and objectives including improving patient care, enhancing the care team experience, improving care coordination, and operating more efficiently.

The move to Epic will also give patients access to the MyChart patient portal, which will replace our current Healow portal. MyChart is accessible through an app and website and will provide better access to your health information. You will be better able to connect and share information, view clinical information, schedule appointments, request refills, pay bills, communicate with your healthcare teams, and much, much more.

It is our goal for this new system to help us provide a more patient-centered care experience.

When MyChart launches, our goal is for it to contain the last three years of your clinical care information but some information may not be immediately available.

HealthFirst Family Care Center will continue to maintain and have access to your complete medical record, as is required under law.

Which HealthFirst Departments will be switching to Epic?

The following departments will be switching to Epic on December 1st, 2022:

  • Medical
  • Behavioral Health
  • Dental
  • Public Health

What is Epic?

Epic is a best-in-class confidential, patient-centered Electronic Health Record platform that will allow HealthFirst to have a single fully integrated system to better manage patient care. This move will help the health center achieve our major goals and objectives including improving patient care, enhancing the care team experience, operating more efficiently, and eliminating disparities in healthcare.

How will Epic benefit HealthFirst patients?

Epic will improve care, communication, and patient satisfaction across our health center. Epic transforms our delivery of patient care and service by improving coordination of care and sharing across institutions and care delivery settings, leading to improved outcomes for patients. Additionally, with your consent, Epic allows for a single patient record that can be accessed by all institutions using Epic like our local hospitals.

Why did we choose Epic?

For many years, we have been looking into ways to bring best-in-class EHR systems to health centers in a way that is affordable and supports their missions and their independence. We considered and evaluated functionality, capabilities, and long-term viability, and compatibility with regional hospitals/health systems; Epic stood out as a top-tier solution for our FQHCs. We also determined that creating an FQHC-governed operating company to implement and operate the system provided the control that we wanted.

Why now?

The pandemic has put even more pressure on health centers and patients. Inefficient and outdated EHR systems add to that burden and upgrading to a new solution can be costly and overwhelming for community health centers to implement on their own. CTC’s united approach removes many traditional barriers to progress. Together, member organizations benefit from reduced costs, a collaborative process, and a coordinated community rollout. Furthermore, the Epic EHR will allow us to have a product that meets the growing demands of us to be innovative and support new models of delivering care.

What is MyChart?

As part of our transition to Epic Medical Records, we are introducing a new online patient portal which is accessible through an app and website.

MyChart will provide better access to your medical records and allow you to:

  • Better connect and communicate with your care team
  • View clinical information
  • Schedule appointments
  • Request refills
  • Pay bills
  • And much, much more

Don’t worry, to access and sign up for our new Epic MyChart patient portal starting on December 1st, we will automatically update the My Patient Portal section on our website to go to new URL.
