What is Hepatitis?

Hepatitis is a general term for inflammation of the liver, which can be caused by a variety of infectious and non-infectious agents. This inflammation can damage the liver and affect its function. Hepatitis can be acute, which means it was recently acquired, or chronic, meaning a long-term condition that can cause progressive liver damage.
