How Marijuana Affects Your Body & Brain

Success Story:

A Caucasian woman in her late 50s was referred to OAR by the MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment) nurse at St Anne’s Hospital when she was hospitalized with nausea and vomiting. She went through severe alcohol withdrawal, including hallucinations, in the hospital where she was diagnosed with early cirrhosis. Her drinking escalated after multiple family deaths including her mother.

She is now tolerating naltrexone 100 mg daily and has not had a drink since, “I could not have done it without the support of my family, my friends, and OAR”. Her longest period of sobriety in the prior 8 years had been 10 weeks after treatment at a psychiatric ward for a suicide attempt.

She has even managed to be off the naltrexone for a week or so, without relapsing, when she needed narcotic pain medication on a couple of occasions. She reports telling anyone who will listen about her experience at OAR, “I am not ashamed. The shame is not getting help.”

Her two year sobriety anniversary date is April, 29, 2023!

National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week®, or NDAFW, is an annual, week-long, health observance that inspires dialogue about the science of drug use and addiction among youth. It provides an opportunity to bring together scientists, students, educators, healthcare providers, and community partners to help advance the science and address youth drug and alcohol use in communities and nationwide. It was launched in 2010 by scientists at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to stimulate educational events in communities so teens can learn what science has taught us about drug use and addiction.

You don’t need to do it alone…we are here to help you on your journey to recovery.
